Digital Radiography Our digital radiography system is capable of capturing superior quality radiographs (x-rays). Our system allows us to manipulate image contrast to improve image quality. We can also manipulate and magnify images to localize a specific area of interest. Using our digital x-ray machine, we can visualize even small changes that could have huge implications for your horse.
Digital radiographs of your horse can be taken in the clinic or on your farm. We are able to visualize and interpret the radiographs immediately. This allows us to evaluate the radiographs and implement a treatment plan in the same visit. We are also able to give you a CD with the radiographs or email images.
Ultrasonography has multiple uses in veterinary medicine. Our practice has three digital ultrasound machines that are used for sports medicine, reproduction, and routine care services. We use ultrasound to: diagnose tendon, ligament and joint injuries; monitor reproductive cycles and pregnancy; and determine severity of pneumonia and abdominal pain (colic). Our digital ultrasounds allow us to save and make copies of images for our clients.
Endoscopy allows our veterinarians to visualize the inside of the horse using a camera. We have a 1 meter and a 3 meter endoscope. Endoscopy is useful when we need to examine a horse’s airways including nasal passages, pharynx, guttural pouches and trachea. We are able to diagnose upper airway diseases like “roaring” in horses and lower airway diseases like “heaves”. We can also visualize the horse’s esophagus and stomach. This is used in horses that frequently have esophageal obstruction (choke) and when we suspect gastric ulceration. Learn more about gastric ulcers in our Client Resource Center.
