Dr. Bob Emeryintegrates Western medicine, chiropractic care, and acupuncture with the philosophy of optimizing your animal’s health, healing and performance. Dr. Emery received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1990. Since then, he has continued to enhance his education in order to provide the best service to animals in his care. He was certified in chiropractic in 2000 and acupuncture in 2002. As a senior partner at BLLA, Dr. Emery works primarily with equine sports medicine focusing on the areas of lameness, chiropractic, acupuncture, dentistry and podiatry. Using his blend of ancient healing techniques, along with modern technology, Dr. Emery strives to help horsemen prevent lameness in order to maintain optimum performance levels in their horses.
His memberships include: AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), MEPA (Michigan Equine Practitioner and Association), AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) and IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society with accreditations from the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture and AVCA.
Dr. Jason Van Lentestrives to combine quality veterinary care with a compassionate attitude. As a BLLA practice partner, he specializes in equine dentistry and reproductive performance. Dr. Van Lente is an expert in periodontal disease and utilizes the most advanced reproductive techniques such as embryo transfer, artificial insemination and ultrasound. Dr. Van Lente also focuses on today’s toughest challenges in livestock production, such as mastitis, in addition to other herd health concerns. As a herd health practitioner, he not only concentrates on the symptoms of ailments but the underlying causes and impact those ailments may have on other animals in the herd. Dr. Van Lente graduated with his DVM degree in 2003 after completing his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in Fisheries & Wildlife and Animal Science. He is a member of the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practioners), AABP (American Association of Bovine Practitioners) and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association).
Dr. Michelle Allen joined us in November 2014 for a four month internship with Dr. Emery. She graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 then followed that with a 13 month internship at Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital. Family brought her back to Michigan. We are very lucky to keep Dr. Allen on as a full-time associate. She has a solid background in equine performance, received certification in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT) from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center in 2014 and is signed up for the acupuncture course this fall.
Dr. Allen is also an avid dressage rider. She schools 3rd level with her horse Jones. She resides in Marshall with her husband Jordan their dog and three cats.
She is a member of the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practioners) and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association)
Dr. Hilary Setlakgraduated with her DVM from MSU in 2008 and with her bachelors in Biology and Pre-Veterinary medicine from the University of Findlay 2004. Dr. Setlak previously worked full-time at Dickman Road Small Animal Veterinary Clinic and as an emergency veterinarian for Beadle Lake Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Setlak has three dogs and a small beef herd. She is a farm girl at heart. Her hobbies include large animal medicine, outdoor activities, and reading.
Michelle Barnes - Office Manager
Michelle is a jack of all trades and a master of none! She has been with Beadle Lake since the beginning, playing multiple roles on the team. She enjoys her job, the many new challenges it has brought and the skills it has taught her.
Michelle graduated from MSU in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. She and her husband Chad have two awesome children; Michalla and Drew. They live on a farm in Ceresco and have many hobbies.
Micheleen was raised in Garden Plain, Kansas and grew up showing horses and dairy heifers in the local 4-H program. In junior high school Micheleen was selected to compete at the Kansas state 4-H horse judging competition, placing 5th individually out of 265 competitors. She met her husband Rob in 1997 and in November of 2003 she decided to make the move from Kansas to Battle Creek, Michigan.
Micheleen joined our team in February of 2014 as our receptionist. In April of 2016 she had the opportunity to become Dr. Emery’s assistant. Micheleen has a passion for equine performance, lameness and farriery. She is an avid barrel racer and serves as the marketing director for the Michigan chapter of the National Barrel Horse Association. Micheleen is also a member of the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians and Assistants.
Ashley Mead- Veterinary Assistant Ashley joined us in March 2005 after graduating from Marshall High School. She is primarily an assistant to Dr. Van Lente. She lives in Albion where she loves spending time with husband DJ and their 2 daughters; Jaylin and Kelsie. She grew up in Marshall on a big Quarter horse farm where she, her dad and sisters show western pleasure horses.

Jade Boone- Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jade joined Beadle Lake Veterinary Clinic full time in April of 2015. She graduated from Baker College in 2014 with an Associates of Applied Science specializing in Veterinary Technology. Jade started at Beadle Lake as a student in 2010, then continued to work on and off while attending college. After graduation she worked in a small animal clinic for a year before returning to Beadle Lake to be closer to family. She is now working alongside Dr. Hilary Setlak at Athens Veterinary Services, an extension of Beadle Lake. She currently lives in Bellevue with her 2 dogs, 2 horses, and 1 cat. She is also an avid barrel racer and a member of the Michigan Association of Veterinary Technicians and the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians.
